WoW Priest Guide - Piloting the Priest

Image of WoW Priest GuideOne of the most common misconceptions about Priests in the World of Warcraft is that they’re limited to providing healing and buffs to itself and its teammates. While it is true that Priests are the best healers in the game, the class can also fulfill many roles.

Just exactly what these roles are will be the subject of this WoW Priest guide.

Yes, the Priest is devastatingly effective when it comes to healing members of its team. However among its many uses are serving as a mana battery, a full out source of DPS, and more. These make this class a very versatile member of raids and no group would venture to any quests, raids, or battle without one.

The Priest is one hard-molded class meant to crush enemies while providing support to the team via health and mana regen, as well as various buffs for various traits. These traits make the Priest very powerful, but at the same time very complicated to handle. Priests are cloth-wearing casters making them very weak against attacks. Of course they negate this factoid by providing some of their healing abilities to themselves.

Let this WoW Priest guide warn you though on how demanding being a Priest can be since this class serves as the main source of life for the team.  Priests must keep keen eye on their companion's health as well as be careful on the damage they dish out. Do too much damage, or over heal, and you will be taken down.  As such, the Priest is better suited for WoW vets, but if you enjoy casters that can DPS pretty well, heal, buff, debuff, and are always sought after, then the Priest might be right for you.

As mentioned above, the Priest class can be quite hard to manage.  However if you are willing to stick it out and have a bit of patience, you can start to see the real potential of the Priest by level 20 or so.  Once you hit 40, you are really coming into your own and should be handling most fights easy enough.

Now let this WoW Priest guide focus on the three talent schools you can take starting at level  10 as we believe these will greatly affect what kind of Priest you are going to be.  The Shadow school hones your DPS, and putting points into this school will greatly improve the damage you can do.  The Holy school on the other hand affects the healing potential and of course your ability to keep your team mates standing. Finally, the Discipline school focuses on strengthening the Priest's buffs.

When it comes to PVP, let this WoW Priest guide be the first to tell you that you’re better off trying out other classes. While the class excels in groups they are just too soft for a PvP fight.  It’s in instances and raids where the true value of the Priest really show.  From direct damage and damage over time spells, to heals and buffs, the priest can fill many different roles depending on what's needed and how he is specced.

Overall, picking the Priest as your class isn’t exactly a bad idea. It may prove to be hard to handle, especially in the earlier levels, but once you get the hang of speccing the class as well as mixing and matching the assets in your Priest’s bag of tricks you should be able to kick ass in WoW.
